It’s been months since I last edited a video on a desktop PC or MacBook using DaVinci Resolve. It’s crazy to think that it feels like only yesterday when mobile video editing was something I barely took seriously. Back then, I genuinely believed that serious content creators had to edit their videos on a desktop.
How things have changed!
These days, I mostly edit on my iPad or phone. My daily vlogs and even my recent travel videos are mainly filmed using two cameras.
The Insta360 X3
My first camera is the Insta360 X3. Yes, we now have newer models like the X6 with 8K capabilities, but for now, the X3 is more than enough for my needs.
I usually export my walking and running vlogs at 1080p, which is perfectly fine for sharing on social media and keeping as part of my personal video journal.
The Insta360 app is also great. It’s simple, intuitive, and makes editing on the go surprisingly easy. My only disappointment is that there is still no Linux version available!
The GoPro Hero 9
My second camera is the GoPro Hero 9. This one still delivers amazing image quality, especially when viewing the footage on a proper PC monitor rather than just a mobile screen.
I took it with me on my recent trip to Thailand, and I also regularly use it to record my CrossFit workouts.
However, the GoPro app is a different story. I’ve had quite a few frustrating experiences with it. The app tends to crash, and the connection between the camera and phone frequently gets lost. It can turn what should be a simple editing process into a bit of a headache.

So, Do I Still Need Desktop Video Editing?
Honestly, not as much as I used to think.
For my current needs, editing on an iPad or phone is more than enough. It’s convenient, quick, and fits perfectly into my daily workflow. I can record, edit, and publish without having to sit in front of a computer.
That said, I still appreciate what desktop editing software like DaVinci Resolve can offer. Maybe I’ll find myself back in front of my desktop for a more serious video project soon.
For now, mobile editing is doing the job just fine! :::
