The Best Reasons to Skip a PS5 or the Xbox Series X if You Already Own a Gaming PC

Everyone is going crazy over the PS5 and they’re saying it’s the best gaming console ever. Don’t get me wrong – I’ve been a PS fan since the first system launched. But here’s the thing: I don’t need the latest and greatest system to have fun. It’s all about the games, and that’s what gaming PCs are all about!

Having lots of stellar games on my PC totally outweighs any desire to have the PS5 or Xbox 2.
Wanting the best version of a game  was one of the main reasons I got into PC gaming. As an avid fan of video games and a self-proclaimed game addict, getting a gaming PC has unleashed a whole new era of video games for me. Tons of good free games are available. Cheaper prices and most importantly, best version a money can buy. Not to mention the amazing backlogs of retro games and emulation that breath new life into old games.

I still collect physical media and retro games. But when it comes to choosing which game to get, I always go for the PC version. Even old school titles that no one know were on the PC like my recent purchased Toy Story 2. and then there is another thing; Sony started releasing PlayStation games on the PC. I preferred the consoles back in the GameCube and Dreamcast era but now days. everything ends up on the PC.

It’s not just about the games though. Console gaming just feels slower and more clunky to me now. There’s something about the freedom of being able to customize every single aspect of your gaming PC that just makes the experience a lot better. With a gaming PC, you’re not limited to what the console manufacturer allows. You can add more storage, upgrade your graphics card, change your keyboard, mouse and controller to whatever you want. You can even use a bigger monitor if you want.

Sure , some people might not like the idea of building their own PC, but there are plenty of gaming PCs out there that come pre-built and are ready to go right out of the box. If you already have a gaming PC, there’s really no need to buy a console. You can get all the same games, plus a whole lot more. The only new console I bought is the Nintendo Switch. Nintendo is still keeping it old school. They still release amazing games wit the 2000s feeling. But other than Nintendo, the rest just seem inferior versions of PC ports.

If you still prefer consoles and their simplicity (which is fading away), more power to you. I on the other hand, will stick to PC Gaming and Nintendo games.

Mortal Kombat 11 announced

No new Mortal Kombat announcement is complete without someone jobbing to Scorpion. Just when I thought to myself hmm, Scorpion got owned for once in a MK trailer, he appears and kills Raiden who is like the boss of the good guys. Well played Boon, well played.

With that aside, its good that a new Mortal Kombat game is finally announced despite not showing actual gameplay in the trailer. The screenshots from Steam looks even crispier than that of the previous installment which looked amazing on all platforms. The promise of a new story mode which I liked in previous MK games especially MK vs DC as well as new and old characters returning should keep MK/Fighting fans happy including myself.

I am however is little skeptical of customization and the use of weapons like in the trailer which cheapened the fatalities in away by actively killing your opponent via these moves mid game only for the fight to continue if you know what I mean. Balanced customization is always welcomed but they should not overdo it like Soul Caliber which is a fantastic game itself.

I’m curious what new features will the game add if any as there is so much you can add to an already fantastic fighting game. More fatalities? A new type of fatality? Perhaps they should work on the online mode and vs in general as a lot of folks tend to spam single moves throughout the whole fight both online and offline which is very annoying and the reason I don’t play online.

Never the less, I’m excited for the new chapter as I was and still am a big Mortal Kombat fan starting from the first game on the Sega Genesis. I’m not sure if I will preorder the game yet as I will be in Ukraine soon but for the once that have will receive Shao Kahn as well as an invite to the beta which is nice.

As a bonus, the game requires very little horsepower while looking great on the PC which is good news for me as I will most likely end up picking both the PC and Xbox One versions. Bellow are the system requirements, have a great day.

The Evil Within 2 PC port Review

The first Evil Within PC port was questionable for many PC gamers as it had some issues surrounding performance mainly frame rates and stutter. Even on higher systems, the game simply wasn’t able to hit a solid 60 frames. I was able to complete the game with mix settings hitting around 30 frames in most parts on my old rig.

The following was my experience with The Evil Within 2. For starters, my rig consists of i7-3770, 8 GB of Ram and Nvidia GTX 980. Everything was set to high with vsync targeting 60 frames at 1080p resolution. I realize I could get away with a few settings on ultra but for the sake of consistency, I set decided to go with high.

There are a lot of graphical settings to change which is always a good thing since lowering a few of them may help stabilize the game for some. Besides PC gaming is all about options and this port feels like a proper PC game. Some are experiencing unstable frame rates with higher PC specs than mine when playing on 4K or 1440p so keep that in mind if your planning to gaming on those resolutions.

I played the game using the Xbox 360 wired controller that worked perfectly out of the box and recommend playing the game this way if you can.

Once the game booted, I was greeted with amazing visuals. Not surprising since this time the game was made to run on next-gen systems in mind. The frame rate throughout the whole game was around 57/60 stutter free even in the middle of the action. The lowest it dropped was around 45 in very rare occasions. Overall, the game performed well and was stable throughout my whole run. Keep in mind though I was running everything on high and consider my system specs.

With that out of the way, let’s look at the game itself. Like I said, the visuals look way better than the first one which was created with the ps3 in mind. This time, the game runs and feels like a next-gen game. The atmosphere is less creepy than the first one but the story and settings to make up for that.

You start in a town called Union. A calm place it was until things went south and all hell broke loose. With Union falling apart, you were brought in and sent inside to find the core which also happens to be your daughter. As you progress, you learn more about union through interactions and hidden files progressing through little by little but enough to keep you coming back for more. There are a few Easter Eggs about another horror game but I will leave it at that. The town atmosphere adds the element of an open world game but does restrict you in ways of story progress. Think of it as the first Silent Hill game on the PSone.

And just like the first game, you do have the option to upgrade your weapons and abilities which includes new takedowns and better character handling. The upgrade part may be little confusing at first since character improvements and weapons upgrade are done from two different locations. The first can only be done in Sebastian’s office while the later can be accessed anytime in your inventory as well as at Sebastian’s office and safe houses.

Speaking of Safe Houses, a few locations allows you to regroup by saving your game and gather useful items inside. You can also access character and weapons upgrade. Such locations are marked on your map once you visit them once. You will know you are entering a safe house as its door will have a special marking. Basically, they are Save rooms from the earlier Resident Evil games.

There aren’t a lot of weapons to find but just enough to keep you going each with its upgrades and best use scenarios. As with the first game, try aiming at the head. You can also use the environment to your advantage like oil drums to give you an edge when facing a lot of enemies. Of course, I prefer sneak kills as they don’t use any ammo which is not hard to find but can be used quickly when not aiming at the head. Once spotted, you better run fast and try to hide out of view until the alarm meter disappears. You can attract enemies by sound or walk into their line of sight. Stay crouched while near these creators and wait for your opportunity before attacking. Sometimes its nearly impossible to sneak in and this is where you have to lure one of them and perform a stealth kill. Save your ammo for tough spots

The game is kinda relaxed at boss fights so don’t expect anything crazy. That’s not to say the ones that you do encounter are not fun as they are and do add to the atmosphere.

There are a few side missions which consist of mostly finding ammo and items as well as doing a small favor for others. Use your map and radio to find them.

Overall, the creepy town atmosphere combined with great engine makes this an enjoyable ride. So I guess the final question is; is this game worth 60 bucks? Yes if your a horror fan and liked the first game. Defiantly grab it once discounted on sale.

So that was it for my PC version review. Check out my performance test video on my other channel Adam3k3 Plays.

Latest PC Pickup

Another day another eBay pickup. I just can’t get enough of Retro Nostalgia and for a good reason. Games back then while not as advanced as now had more personal depth and felt alive as developers did their best. Nowadays, it seems every game is just a clone of some other game. Exceptions, of course, must be made but I’m more drawn toward the past than the present. Some may say I’m living in the past but so be it. Anyway, I just managed to score the bellow as I was browsing for my next fix.

tony_hawks_american_wastland

Tony Hawk’s American Wasteland for the PC! I love Tony Hawk’s games but the series went downhill after American Wasteland. Yes, Project 8 and Proving Ground which I liked were ok but other games are garbage. It’s a shame since I was looking forward to THPS 5 and even bought the remastered version of the first on both the Xbox 360 and PC as well as X on the original Xbox.

I’m not sure if the game will run native on Windows 10 but there is no such a thing as impossible on the PC. Plus I will be Able to run the game on max and even spice it up with graphical Mods if I can find any. The only thing I’m worried about is setting up the game to work with the Xbox 360 wired controller which I tend to use to play most of my PC games including FPS. Crazy I know.

My next target (after completing some of the games I have) is to hunt down the Tomb Raider series. I know that I can get the trilogy cheap on GOG.com but I like having the big box versions even if they take allot space. There is a special feel to the physical media hence why I love to collect and play the actual disk games.

tomb_raider_trilogy

If you been following me for some time you wold know that I tend to order a lot of games which resulted in a huge backlog. To combat this, I’m on a strict diet of completing my older titles one by one and so far I managed to clear a few games like sonic Generation and Rayman Origins which I 100%. Whats the use of buying stuff if you never gonna use them?

Have great one folks.

Gears of War Ultimate Edition PC port specs are unacceptable

gears_of_war

Before I start my rant, I was and still am among the ones that buy Microsoft products and will continue doping so in the near future. With that been said, Gears of War PC port’s leaked specs should not be near anything that we saw. I know these are the leaked version but something tells me the end result will look the same. Before going any further, let’s take a look at the current specs:

Recommended for 1920X1080P

  • OS: 64 bit Windows 10 – version 1511
  • Processor: Intel Core i5 @3.5GHz+ or AMD FX 8-core
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM (4 GB VRAM)
  • Graphics: GeForce GTX 970 or Radeon R9 290X
  • Hard Drive: 60 GB available space
  • DirectX 12

Recommended for 4K

  • OS: 64 bit Windows 10 – version 1511
  • Processor: Intel Core i7 @ 4Ghz or AMD FX 8-core
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM (6+ GB VRAM)
  • Graphics: Geforce GTX 980 Ti or Radeon R9 390X
  • Hard Drive: SSD + 60 GB available space
  • DirectX 12

Minimum Requirements

  • OS: 64 bit Windows 10 – version 1511
  • Processor: Intel Core i5 @ 2.7Ghz or AMD FX 6-core
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM (2 GB VRAM)
  • Graphics: Geforce GTX 650 Ti or Radeon R7 260x
  • Hard Drive: 60 GB available space
  • DirectX 12

Starting right off the bat, the game is Windows 10 only with Direct X 12 as the main reason forcing you to upgrade. This is no secret, Microsoft is doing everything they can to make people upgrade and it makes sense since Windows 10 is considered a service. Spying and disabling pirated software aside, Windows 10 is a good OS but greatly exaggerated. The Windows store is nothing to write home about and forces all apps to run with Vsync on and full screen which in turn affects people with Gsync monitors like myself.

Windows store is no Steam or even Origin so forcing players to use it while it’s still maturing is dumb considering Steam has the majority of PC gaming market share. I have a strong feeling this will end up Games for Windows 2.0. Forcing me to buy the game from Windows store is the first red flag.

Moving on to the CPU. I am no expert in the processors department but having an i5 is somehow reasonable although the clock speed of 3.5 is still higher than normal, at least, that’s how it looks to me.

Now comes the surprising part, 8 GB of Ram is the minimum amount required to run the game with 16 GB as recommended for both 1080p and 4K gaming? This is a Xbox 360 game running at higher resolution with a few tweaks here and there not to mention that it runs smoothly on Xbox One so why 16 GB?

I can understand the 4K requirement but even that is too much for an old 360 port. Smells bad optimization all over this.

Surprisingly enough, GTX 970 for recommended seems reasonable but again, this is just a remastered 360 game so yeah. Note that GB of VRAM is required but judging from previously released games, a normal 750 would handle the game on low just fine.

And lastly, 60 GB of hard disk space is kinda standard and with the game having 4K textures (I assume) its not so unusual to require.

. . .

In conclusion, requiring Windows 10 as well as 16 GB of Ram for recommended for a 360 remastered port is not acceptable. Forcing people to use your store (when it’s not ready and have problems) is not the smartest move. Not after Microsoft admitting that Games for Windows was a mistake and promised to treat PC gamers better as well as working with Valve. I will hold out till more information is available and the game hits the shelves on march.

Quantum Break PC version is Windows 10 store only!

qb

In case you haven’t heard, the anticipated Xbox One exclusive Quantum Break is now coming to the PC. The bad news, it’s a Windows 10 store exclusive.

I don’t know how Microsoft works on the inside or who is running the show but I do know that releasing your first cross platform (game after admitting past mistakes and the promise of taking a better approach toward PC gamers) on only Windows 10 new store is how you piss people off. Look mate, I’m currently running a legit version of Windows 10 home edition so it’s not that I’m hating on the windows or anything, it’s just the untrusted Windows 10 store that I have a problem with!

Don’t blame me if I’m not a fan of buying things from an OS store especially after the Games for windows fail that I supported back in the day. With Stea it’s clear, you buy the game and can install it on as many PCs as you like and even have an offline mode. Windows 10 store, not so much. Not releasing your biggest game on the most popular distribution platform is basically making sure that the game won’t sell well.

But I know whats going on, it’s a sad trap to lure in user to upgrade and use Windows 10. About a good chunk of gamers are still on Windows 7 and for a good reason. Spying issues, the open door to disable and monitor what you do on your PC and the list goes on. Why do you think Microsoft is basically giving away Windows 10 for free to 7/8 owners?

Why do I care? I was planning to run this game on my newly ordered 980 GTX but seeing all this now I think I will be happier playing on my Xbox One. Who knows how long this great Windows 10 store is gonna last?!

Microsoft, if you want to capitalize on PC Gaming then stop playing tricks with us. PC gamers unlikely console folks will not accept bullshit just because the company said so. Look at Arkham Knight. I for one hope that Microsft realize the huge mistake before it’s too late and give us options. A physical version won’t hurt as well.

Why you should get into PC gaming in 2016

PC GamingEveryone and their mothers predicted the death of PC gaming the moment windows 95 was out to the public followed by the PS1 and Nintendo 64. Then came the PS2 era and everyone claimed that PC gaming is done. Fast forward five years later and Xbox 360 and PS3 were available to purchase. This time PC gaming had what’s coming for it for sure. Strangely enough, it’s 2016 as well as the second year for Xbox One and PS4 and yet PC gaming is still here, stronger than ever. What’s going on folks?

Reason #1

It is no longer a niche platform! When you thought of PC gaming in the 90s, first person shooters, real time strategy and online RPGs were the first things that came up. Not anymore. PC gaming today host all kind of different styles and games. From Mortal Kombat X to Resident Evil saga. The gap between PC gaming and consoles in terms of an available type of games is now closed. No longer is the PC a master of a few type of games. You can find anything made in recent days on  the PC which brings us to reason number 2.

Reason #2

Less reasons to own a console. Owning a console back in the PS1 era was a must. Where else would you have found gems like Crash, Grand Turismo and Castlevania Symphony of the Night? Sure, many games got ported to PC such as croc and final fantasy as well as Mortal Kombat Trilogy but the majority of home versions such as Xmen vs Street Fighter were only available on consoles. New days, everything comes to PC as more and more developers started coming out realizing you can make a profit selling games on PC and even start developing on it when you’re new.

Not to mention you can use any kind of controller o the PC as well as the mouse and keyboard. I personally prefer to use the Xbox 360 pad but you can use PS4 one if you like. The choice is unlimited. So what was the reason to own a console again? The exclusives you say? Well, I hate to break it to you but console exclusives are dying faster than college girls morality. Sorry, but as a consoles owner myself, I hardly touch them due to no real exclusive games to play apart from a very selected few which are great games, just not many.

Reason #3

PC versions are mostly better. If you still don’t know why PC versions are better then you need to come out of the rock your living under and do some research. PC version gives you control on how your game looks and feel. Want the sharpest, best image setting possible? No problem. I used to care about graphics setting everything on high and ultra until I got to play a game in the glorious 60 frames per second. Now I tend to set my settings on med-high as long as the frames are above 50. It’s just better.

Moving on to another important factor which is the price, you can get good deals online almost daily. I managed to get Batman Arkham Origins for about $20 day one. Beat that. Plus Steam sales as well as Origins and GOG.com are hard to ignore. Plus you get to play old retro games on your current PC with the little help of tweaks and add-ons as well as an awesome community. Playing your favorite game which you got cheap on the highest smoothest settings using your favorite controller, whats not to like?

And let’s not forget about the modding community. Google Fake Factory Half-Life 2 mod and prepare to be convinced. Adding free stuff to a game you already own for free is something console developers hate because they get to release the same stuff as a paid product. Paying for gun skins? Aint nobody got time for that!

Reason #4

Many options. Want your games digital with fast delivery and best prices? Go with Steam. Want DRM free version? Go with GOG.com. Want physical copies? No problem. Changing the hardware is also cheaper than you might think. My brother got a used GTX 650 and is playing everything on high with no problem. My GTX 750 is rocking, even more, frame rates and that’s dirt cheap. All you need is a cheap graphics card and some ram. Almost any PC can run PC games provided you set the right settings. Stuck on something? Google or Youtube it and your done.

. . . . .

Yes, consoles are still popular and are not going away anytime soon. The exclusive games are mostly worth it and if all your friends game on consoles then its the only way to go. Gone are the days though when you can just put the cd in and start the game. The new era of consoles brought new problems like hard disk space and long updates and installations making it no different than your average PC game.

Yes, console gaming is still relevant and the only way to go for many gamers but if you’re serious about your hobby or want to save money in a long run then, at least, consider PC gaming. Trust me, there are hundreds of amazing games you never heard of due to lack of advertising and most of your favorite console franchise started out on PC like Call of duty.
