Batman Arkham Knight gets M rated, not surprised

baknm_arkham_knightSo Batman Arkham Knight is now getting the M rating for the supposedly increase violence and for some reason people are surprised! The way I see it; Arkham games were always intended for adults with deep and somehow emotional story along with the in game deaths.

The first game set the mood for the insane taking over the island killing the guards and hijacking everything. Arkham City followed with a more dangerous feel as no one is safe in the no law land. It is only natural that the next and the final game will end with more violence and death considering the power of the next gen. And with the rumors flying around that Batman himself might end up dying I am not surprised of the rating at all.

I for one wish that the next game will force Batman to be more brutal facing someone like the Arkham Knight. Regardless of all, Arkham Knight got this rating for a reason and although this may rob the developers a few thousand dollars, the story will be told the way it was meant and that’s why I am happy.

Not many would sacrifice extra sales for quality and in today’s unfinished games era I am glad to hopefully witness a master peace done right and the way it was intended.

All this however should not give you an idea that Batman will start killing thugs left and right although he had done so accidentally if you played any of the Arkham games, instead a more violent Batman will do what he can to save the city while even if it meant dying in the process.

I expect Batman to make an exception and take Arkham Knight with him as he goes down but that may be crazy talk and Batman end up trying to save Arkham Knight after beating him or puting in him in danger but nothing is certain.

Testing the wordpress IOS app’s latest update

Not so long ago I blogged about testing the ios wordpress app and the result was not so promising as the app had very basic editor. Now that the app was updated to include a visual one, its time to test it again.

The first thing I noticed is the lack of spell check. While not a deal breaker, a spell check is important considering you are blogging from a phone or an iPad.

The other thing is the lack of formatting options for the text. Now unlike the spell check, this feature is a must for a serious blog post.

Despite the above, I am please with the new update. I will blog more on the go and hope that the app gets even better.

Why am I returning to Dropbox

dboxSo about a year ago I wrote a post about how excited was I to switch to Microsoft’s OneDrive cloud storage. I heavily used it for a month only to return to Dropbox. Here is why:

The upload order:

I mostly use the cloud as a fast backup and lately the only one. Now I know that this is a very bad practice I still tend to do it. any way, most of the photos uploaded came from camera upload from my iPhone; most of the photos were out of order placing them at the bottom or the top of the list.

I managed to do a quick work around but hated to redo it every time I was looking for a specific photo and the work around will sometimes stop working.

The fail rate:

I will be the first to admit; the rate is not high. Never the less, this created the problem above as photos will not upload in the correct way. The fails came from both the iPhone and my Windows PC.

Windows 8.1:

The final nail in the coffin: Once I made the upgrade to 8.1, Windows automatically set to download everything without an option to turn this off. No joke. I searched the internet for hours with the only work around is to login on the web interface and turn it off.

Even that was a headache as the control options were as confusing. I decided to unlink the PC from my account and delete everything. Big mistake, everything was deleted from the web as well despite me unlinking the PC. After all that I decided that enough is enough.

Not only did I made the jump to DropBox I also format my PC and reinstalled windows 8 which in turn made my gaming performance better and used less C space.

Now comes the good part, the things I enjoyed:

I admit, having a full latest version of Office complimentary really sweeten the deal. I will still use OneDrive along with Office Online for my main documents editing.

Final Note: I am not knocking off OneDrive off the cloud table, for many this is the perfect option and if you use Office like 90% of the world then OneDrive is a very good choice.

Like I said, for me cloud is about uploading and backing up my pictures so Dropbox is the perfect option despite having little share controls with the free version. The Paid one gets you 1 TB just like Google Drive and OneDrive so for me it made sense to switch back to something I love.

Now if Google Drive had the camera upload instead of jumping through Google+, I would have maybe change my mind?

Any way, both OneDrive and Dropbox are a serious cloud options for any one serious about backing up backing up their collection.

Steam chat blocks Torrent links

media_steam_logo

STEAM Chat is now blocking most Torrent links shared. What surprises me is that why would any one share pirated software links while on legit download service?!

I understand that they may have Steam running with no games but that would be an over kill for a chat client, but then again there is no good client for desktop anyway.

Of course not all links get blocked and that is natural as the blocking falters get updated over time. My question is; Why bother? I know that Valve is trying to reduce piracy but wouldn’t it be better to spend the time and resource on something more useful, like a recording option?

Let me know what you all think.

The game is not exactly graphically impressive but not bad either. PC players will have the option to play the last Gen installment along with the new Unity and more options is always a good thing. I may pick this up for the right price as I’m not a huge fan yet but it is available for the ones that want it.

Mortal Kombat X System Requirements

mortal-kombat-xThe PC System Requirement were announced and I have a mixed feeling. Lets look at the requirements before going any further:

MINIMUM:
    • OS: 64-bit: Vista, Win 7, Win 8
    • Processor: Intel Core i5-750, 2.67 GHz | AMD Phenom II X4 965, 3.4 GHz
    • Memory: 3 GB RAM
    • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 | AMD Radeon HD 5850
    • DirectX: Version 11
    • Network: Broadband Internet connection
    • Hard Drive: 25 GB available space
RECOMMENDED:
    • OS: 64-bit: Win 7, Win 8
    • Processor: Intel Core i7-3770, 3.4 GHz | AMD FX-8350, 4.0 GHz
    • Memory: 8 GB RAM
    • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 | AMD Radeon HD 7950
    • DirectX: Version 11
    • Network: Broadband Internet connection
    • Hard Drive: 40 GB available space

As seen, the minimum requirements aren’t that bad or high except maybe for the i5 CPU but overall are more than manageable for anyone with a PC from 3-8 years ago. I do think though that the recommended are a bit over the top. i7 and 8 GB Ram? The standard amount of Ram these days is 4-6 so giving 8 GB is a bit over. I also think that i7 is unnecessary and with a good optimization the game should require less.

Now I know that this is the next gen and so on but even then, this is bit over. Of course I will need to test the game to confirm as this may turn out to be another The Evil Within where they recommended insane specs only for the game to run max at much lower specs. Guess we will have to wait and see.

Regardless of all, the game uses a new engine and looks great. Judging from the videos we saw, it also plays great and smooth so I’m not surprised the recommended specs are high. Im still unsure if I will be picking this up on the PC or Xbox One but I am glad that another Mortal Kombat is making its way to the PC thanks to Steam.

You can preorder the game on Steam and get the free DLC with it for $59.99.

UFC 183 proves Silva is not ready for Wiedemann

silva_vs_diaz

UFC 183 main card was a great match with a great first round. To break it down; Diaz started clowning around the octagon and making all sort of jokes about Silva. On the other hand Silva remained calm and focused but was that enough to convince us that he is ready to retake the belt? No, here is why:

It was the return of the Spider, the all time best in the middleweight octagon. Returning from an injury is impressive, wining an unranked UFC fighter via decision is not NOT.

Let us consider the following; Silva failed to land a serious damage and instead concentrated on short attacks and defiance. And while there is nothing wrong with this, Chris Wiedemann is and will not be Nick Diaz. We are talking about a fighter who dropped and defeated Silva in both fights. Some will argue that the leg break is a freak accident, dropping Silva with a punch and basically wining up to the leg drop is not.

Leaving aside the semi retirement speech at the end, Silva in my opinion is not ready to face the champ and it shows.

The return of the Spider was great and I was amazed that he was able to kick with that leg again but the overall performance against a 2 year off unranked fighter is far from satisfying. The invincible warrior is just not there. Silva looked like any mma fighter and that is not a good sign if you wanna retake the belt from a guy that dropped you twice.

Yes Silva won, but not by a crashing dominant fashion like some are pretending. Overall, I welcome Silva back and happy that he gets to do what he loves but at the same time I’m being realistic; This will not win him back the belt nor avenge his double losses against Chris Wiedemann.

Rumored Slim PS4 coming this year?

ps4-slimRumors of a new slimmer PS4 version started coming in stronger than ever and with a good reason. Sony had updated versions across all the Play Stations released starting from the very first and ending with a PS3.

And while I’m not shocked, I am little surprised and happy that a new cheaper model is coming out. Just in time for me to grab on as I spend the money on upgrading my old PC which I will have to upgrade again due to an error on my side. All in all, this is a great news for both Sony and the consumer as upgrades and discounts are always welcomed.

I expect the new model to have hard buttons as opposite to the touch to save cost as well as cheaper plastic feel but you cant complain when buying a reengineered cheaper model especially if they lower the price to a reasonable level.

I’m closely following this news as I’m excited to finally grab a next gen Play Station system after totally skipping PS3 (I used my brother’s console). More news as they come.

Simpsons skins are coming to Minecraft

simpsons_minecraftCredit: http://mashable.com/

I think we are starting to see how Microsoft will start benefiting from the huge Minecraft purchase and the first downloadable skins are here. For only $1.99 you will receive The Simpsons skin pack on Xbox One with Xbox 360 around feb. The rest of the platforms will surly follow although I am surprised this isn’t on the PC yet.

While this is in no way a big thing, I honestly like it as it gives some colors to an already great game. Lets just hope they wont overdo it.
